Joseph Murphy Denton, 78, of Sevierville, passed away Saturday, January 23, at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee in Knoxville.
Mr. Denton was a member of the D.A.V., Fox Methodist Church and had served his country for three years in the Army during WWII.
Murphy was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Denton; sister, Eldridge Leona Denton; and a grandson, Randy Denton.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Edmonds Denton, Sevierville; sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Dixie Denton, Sevierville, and Dennis and Kathy Edmonds, Cosby; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Sue and Dennis Layman, Sevier County; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Gaveta Chaney, Sevierville, and Velma Samples, White Pine; three nieces; and one nephew.
Service for Mr. Denton will be 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 25, at Rawlings Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Neece, Rev. Tony Sutton, Rev. Becky Stephens, and Rev. Robert Brewer officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hills Union Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday preceding the service at Rawlings Funeral Home.
