Charlene Rathbone Brown, age 68, of Newport died Saturday morning at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband Colombus Brown, Parents Raymond and Lola Raines Rathbone. Sister Mary Vina Cates and Brothers Lee Odas Rathbone and Cleophas Rathbone.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Donna and Roger White, Elva and Dewey Cameron of Newport.
Sister and brother-in-law Dora and David Brown of Cosby and sister Judy Rathbone of Newport.
Brother and sister-in-law Charles and Diana Rathbone of Newport and brother Tom Dewey Rathbone of Newport.
Grandchildren Tonya and Husband Steve Ellison, Matthew White, and Wesley White, and great grandson Alex Ellison all of Newport. Also several nieces and nephews.
Sister-in-law Imogene Rathbone of Newport.
Family will receive friends Sunday Evening September 7, 2008 from 6 til 8 P.M. the funeral service at 8 P. M. with Rev. Manson Lee and Rev. Jackie Caldwell officiating.
Graveside service will be 10 A. M. Monday September 8, 2008 at the Union Cemetery.
Brown Funeral Home in charge.

We left Hardee's and went up Irish Cut to visit with Charlene (Rathbone) Brown. She was in a bad way physically but mentally the same ole Charlene I've known since we were children. She is Charlie's first cousin and we both think she is a wonderful person. She is constantly in our prayers and will be until the good Lord gets her ready for her heavenly home. She has been ready for along time and I'm so glad for her.

Saturday morning I got a call in my motel room that Charlie's first cousin, Charlene (Rathbone) Brown had passed from this life to her better home.

Sunday evening we went down to Brown Funeral Home along with almost all our church that closed up so folks could go to the viewing of Charlene (Rathbone) Brown who had a lot of relatives at our church and her father, the late Raymond Rathbone, was a member. We got to Brown's around six and there was barely standing room only. Everyone really wanted to keep her here but her number was up and her new home was ready and we all will greatly miss her. Charlene and I grew up together and always good friends even before our marriage into the Rathbone family and we were good neighbors to each other too. We did not get to the burial Monday morning because we had a sick girl here that needed to go to the doctor and had to miss two days of school too.
