Ruby Askew, age 83, of Parrottsville, went home to be with her Savior and Lord, Monday, April 22, 2013, surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was a faithful member of New Bethel Church and retired from Cocke County School Systems where she was employed as a custodian at Parrottsville Elementary, where she was mamaw to the students. She is preceded in death by husband of 64 years Charles L. Askew; her son, Freddie Dane Askew; granddaughter, Bridgette Anetra Askew Phillips; grandson, Bradley Kevin Askew; son-in-law, Rev. Ty Hall; parents, Kenneth and Lucreta Walker; sister, Tanzella Butler; brothers, Earl, Orlville and Ordway Walker. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles Ray and Charlotte Askew; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Dennis Caldwell, Linda and Otha Rolen; daughters-in-law, Sheila Aikens and Eva Askew. She was blessed with ten grandchildren, Lance Askew, Sharla and Marty McClure, Brian and Brooke Askew, Missy and Scottie Webb, Brandon and Brandi Caldwell, Dustin Caldwell, Tyler and Sheri Hall, Travis and Haley Hall. She is great mamaw to Jaden and Emma McClure, Logan West, Hunter Phillips, Savannah Webb, Dane Lee Askew, Devin Lee Caldwell, Hudson Ty Hall and Lexi Barrett. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Artell and George Holt, Uneeda and John Frazier; brother, Charles Walker; and special brother-in-law, Dickie Butler and sister-in-law, Juanita Walker. She is also survived by her church family. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 pm Wednesday, April 24, 2013 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dennis Caldwell, Rev. Willie Winters and Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will be held 11:00 am Thursday, April 25, 2013 in Union Cemetery; her grandsons, Brian Askew, Dustin and Brandon Caldwell, Lance Askew, Tyler and Travis Hall, Logan West and Hunter Phillips will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service. Family and friends may sign the guest register on line at: www.manesfunerahome.com.
