Charles L. Askew, age 86, of Parrottsville , went home to be with his Lord, Savior and Friend, Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a faithful member and exceptional deacon of New Bethel Church. He deeply loved his church and his calling as a deacon. He was retired from Stokely Van Camp and Quaker Oats after 34 years of dedicated service. He was preceded in death by his son, Freddie Dane Askew, granddaughter, Bridgette Anetra Askew Phillips; grandson, Bradley Kevin Askew; son-in-law, Rev. Ty Hall; parents, Lewis and Lena Askew; sister, Mattie Rhea Barger and Nannie Bea Askew; brothers, George, Ed, Burl and Robin Askew. He is survived by his loving wife of 64, years, Ruby. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Charlotte Askew of Parrottsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Rev. Dennis Caldwell of Newport, Linda and Otha Rolen of Parrottsville, daughters-in-law, Sheila Aikens of Knoxville, Eva Askew of Sevierville. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Lance Askew and Sharla and Marty McClure of Sevierville, Brian and Brooke Askew, Missy and Scottie Webb, Dustin and Teresa Caldwell, Brandon and Brandi Caldwell of Newport, Tyler and Sheri Hall, Travis Hall and Haley Suggs of Parrottsville. He was also Great Papaw to Jaden and Emma McClure, Logan West and Hunter Phillips, Savannah Webb, Dane Lee Askew, Devin Lee Caldwell and Hudson Ty Hall. He is also survived by his sister, Lorene Moore of Newport; brothers, Wayne and Cecil Askew of Parrottsville. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 pm Friday, August 19, 2011 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dennis Caldwell, Rev. Willie Winters and Rev. Jerry Williams will conduct the service. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Friday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service. Burial will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Union Cemetery. His grandsons, Brian Askew, Dustin Caldwell, Brandon Caldwell, Lance Askew, Tyler Hall, Travis Hall, Logan West and Hunter Phillips will serve as pallbearers. Deacons of New Bethel Church, David Fox, Timmy Fox and Marvin Holt will serve as honorary pallbearers. Manes Funeral Home in charge.
