Notes |
- Harald III King Of Norway, a descendant of Harold I, was noted for his
adventourous spirit. The Norwegian sagas tell stories about his exploits as
captain of the bodyguard of the Byzantine emperors. Harold became king in 1046.
Because of Danish claims on the Norwegian throne, he had to fight Denmark. He
invaded England in 1066 to help Earl Tostig in his fight with Tostig's brother,
King Harold II of England. Harold III and Tostig were killed at the battle of
Stamford Bridge.
