McNabb, Korean War POW, dies at 81
Author: Duay O'Neil
CLINTON-Everett 'Ebb' McNabb, who survived nearly two years of imprisonment in North Korea during the Korean War, died Thursday after a period of declining health.
McNabb, 81, a Cocke County native, entered the service on December 3, 1951, at age 20, and was serving on the front lines with the United States Army, when North Korean forces overran his company, inflicting numerous casualties and taking many other soldiers prisoner.
"He told us the bodies were stacked high," said his son on Friday morning. "They threw a grenade into his bunker and he was shot during the attack. Actually he was shot a total of nine times in the war, including the time he was shot when he tried to escape the prison camp."
