Grace Jenkins Proffitt, age 94, of Cosby, died at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County, Tuesday, September 6, 2005, surrounded by her family.
She was horn April 14, 1911, in Cosby, Tenn. She was the daughter of John and Mattie Jenkins. She was married to the late Raymond Proffitt.
Grace was a member of Liberty Church. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mattie Jenkins; husband, Raymond Proffitt; sisters, Georgia Proffitt, Juanita Bryant, Gona Jackson, Gertrude Gower, Glesma Phillips, and Gladys Jenkins. Grace is survived by her nieces, Sandra Wilds, of Parrottsville; Peggy Anderson, of Nashville; and Paula Cheryl Curren and husband, Dennis, of Jacksonville, Fla.; nephews, John Phillips, of Johnson City; Randy Phillips and wife, Sue, Bridgeton, Mo.; Mike Phillips, of Jacksonville, Fla. And David Proffitt and wife Pauline of Newport; great-nieces, Marcie Wilds-McMahan and husband, Iliff, of Parrottsville; Lisa Osborne and husband, Allen, of Apex, N.C.; Tracie Walker and husband, Jason, of Johnson City; great-nephews, David Wilds and wife, Jessica, of Kodak; Gregg Phillips and wife, Wendy, of Overland, Mo.; special great-great-nieces, Ella Grace Wilds and Lily Ann Wilds; great-great-nephews, Luke Phillips, Tyler Osborne, and Isaac Osborne.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2005, at Manes Funeral Home Chapel followed by the funeral services, with John Rush and Rick Mahaffey conducting the service.
Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Friday in Waters-Large Cemetery.
