Donald Ray Stallions Sr. passed away August 31, 2005 at his home in Maryville TN after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. He was a 60 year resident of Oak Ridge TN, arriving at the age of 4 in 1944. He was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School, a Veteran of the United States Navy and a Graduate of Tennessee Technological University. He was a true hero of the Cold War starting as a research scientist in the Biology Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory where he contributed to many publications and presentations. He later transferred to the Lab Protection Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He retired in 2004 as the director of Lab Protection for Oak Ridge National Laboratory after 37 years of service. He received numerous awards and recognitions for his loyal service and leadership in emergency services and security while at ORNL. He was an ordained elder in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a dedicated member in good standing of the Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club. He was a loving husband, father, and pappaw. He was preceded in death by his father, William Stallions; father-in-law, Charles Malone; and step father, Curtis Riddings. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jewel Stallions; son, Don Stallions Jr. and wife Dee Anne of Maryville; grandson, William Stallions of Maryville; mother, Lois Riddings of Oak Ridge; mother-in-law, Fannie Malone of Lafollette TN; brother, Mike Stallions and wife Donna of Decatur, AL; sister, Elizabeth Stallions and husband Keith of Smyrna, TN; sister-in-law, Shirley Morris of Vandalia OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are Saturday, September 3, 2005 at 8:00 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Raymond Burnette officiating. Graveside services are Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Maryville. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary.
