Roy was born in Knoxville the son of the late Orvel and Nell Ellis. Roy graduated from Young High School and married his high school sweetheart Annette Kennedy. He served four years in the Air Force, then returned to Knoxville and served in the Tennessee Air National Guard. In 1967 Roy joined Delta Air Lines, working there for 25 years as a mechanic/technician. He coached girl’s fast-pitch softball and boy’s Pee-Wee football in DeKalb County for many years. Roy and Annette retired to Jackson, where they enjoyed living on the lake, NASCAR and fishing. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 52 years and one daughter, Deborah Ann of Marietta. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, 2008 in the Chapel of Haisten Funerals & Cremations in McDonough with the Rev. Lavon Dozier officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park in McDonough. Friends may visit the family Friday evening from 7 – 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Pallbearers: Lee Coleman, Carl Hudson, Mac James, Dewitt Johnson, Tom McClendon, Carey Phillips, Joe Rowe and Kent Simpson.
