Mr. Jimmy Fred Ramsey, age 78, of Newport, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at UT Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born September 4, 1937 to Zola Costner and Leroy Ramsey, who both preceded him in death, along with his brother Billy Bruce Ramsey, sister Patricia Overholt and step-mother Mary Ramsey. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janice Ramsey, children Craig Ramsey (Lynn), Michelle Shelton (Mike), Mark Ramsey and Jennifer Holt, all of Newport, grandchildren Brad Ramsey, Chelsea Salyer, Jake and Jordan Shelton, Markeila Lane, Harley Ramsey, Caitlin and Cameron Ramsey, Paige Stinson, Logan Holt, Lucas Holt, Lance Holt, and Leah Holt great-grandchildren Azlynn and Colton Lane, and sisters Emma (Don) Boley and Barbara Jenkins. Additional survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins and many colleagues and friends. Jimmy Fred worked for the Dixie Music Company and later became a dispatcher for the Newport Police Department. He retired in 2007 after 35 years of service. He coached the Yellow Jackets Pee Wee football team for many years, a role model for his players who still call him “Coach”. He thoroughly enjoyed Tennessee football, and especially delighted in entertaining family and friends with his amazing wit and masterful storytelling. He was also an outstanding guitar player, self-taught and amazing - but golf was his passion. He was a longtime member of the Smoky Mountain Country Club where he was honored with many awards and accolades, winning numerous tournaments, including the Club Championship. He also won 6 Tennessee Senior Olympics Championships of which he was very proud! He was a humble and kind man, generous and giving to many causes. He loved his family and he loved life. He will truly be missed! The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Manes Funeral Home prior to a Celebration of Life service.
