COWDEN, CLAUDE W. - age 79, of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, November 1, at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. Mr. Cowden was a native of Knoxville and son of the late Judson and Isabele Duncan Cowden. He was a member of Park Lane Baptist Church, a veteran of WWII and retired from the US Postal Service in Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Glenn Cowden. He is survived by his loving family: wife, Kathleen Bales Cowden; daughter, Sue Renfro; sons, David Cowden, Wayne Cowden, all of Knoxville, Charles Cowden, Greeneville; granddaughter and husband, Stephanie and Brent Thornell; grandsons, Steven Renfro, Ricky Smith and Jesse Cowden; great-grandchildren, Chasity, Chad and Blake. Mr. Cowden is at Highland South Funeral Home, Chapman Highway at Valgro Road, where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. David Gregg and Rev. Gale Lyon officiating. Interment will follow at Highland South Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Highland South Funeral Home, 573-7300.
