Resided in Pigeon Forge, TN
Claude Joel Reagan, age 91, of Pigeon Forge, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017 at University of Tennessee Medical Center after a short illness. He was a member of Hurst Chapel Baptist Church.
He was a dedicated, hard-working, and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and patriot.
Claude was a veteran of World War II, where he was a proud member of the 66th Infantry Division of the US Army. He survived the sinking of the SS Leopoldville by a U-boat on its crossing of the English Channel on December 24, 1944. He earned the Bronze medal. After completing his service in the Army, he then joined the Navy. After coming home from the war, he worked and retired from Bowater after 30 years of employment.
Claude was a distinguished mountain man who relished a day's hard work in his overalls and was most happy and content working his mountain farm on Caney Creek's, Bear Wallow Hollow. He was a world traveler, but enjoyed working in his garden, the changing seasons and the sounds of nature around him. He especially enjoyed watching the morning sunrise, the evening sunset and the changing phases of the moon. Claude was an avid reader with a studious mind and had an amazing memory, often reciting entire poems, song lyrics, as well as passages from the Bible to the delight of those around him. He kept a journal and devotedly wrote in it every night.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Nichols Reagan.
Mr. Reagan is survived by daughters Debbie Jones and husband Jimmy, Sharon Brenner and husband Steve, and Patti Reagan-Price and husband Dave.
Granddaughters Robin Loveday and husband Travis, Sara Reed, Leia Letterman and husband Danny.
He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Jake, Matt, and Reagan Loveday; Brady and Tucker Reed; and Anna Mae, Chase and Lane Letterman. Many nieces and nephews and very special to Claude and his family, Ruth Green and Ardell Gregory.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Friday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Interment 9 AM Saturday in Hurst Chapel Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.atchleyfuneralhome.com
