EVANS, AILEEN JENKINS - 68, of Newport, Tenn., passed away Saturday, October 24, at the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newport. She had worked at the Newport Utilities Board for 29 years before her retirement in 1988. She was an active volunteer for many community activities including the American Cancer Society, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, where she was a former girl of the year, and an avid University of Tennessee football fan. Aileen was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Evans. She is survived by her brother, Delozier Jenkins, Jr. and his wife, Dorothy of Alcoa; nephews, Michael, Jim, Chris, and Glen Jenkins, all of Knoxville, Bobby Burgess of Knoxville, Jerry Burgess of Nashville, Larry Burgess of Gray, Bill Burgess of Dandridge and Ed Lane, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; nieces, Patricia Jean Palmer of Baton Rouge, La., Teresa Morris of Dallas, Texas, Barbara Illman, Pennsylvania, Brenda Parker, Wanda Lifford, Anna Long, all of Church Hill, Debbie Weiderman of Danville, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Juanita and her husband, Dennis Burgess of Newport; sisters-in-law, Imogene Jenkins of Knoxville and Lucille Evans Lane of Church Hill, Tenn.; and brother-in-law, Raymond Evans of Nashville. A double graveside service with her sister, Emma Lou Jenkins will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Union Cemetery with Rev. Jim Lindsay officiating. Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Brown Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Newport or to the American Cancer Society.
