After a courageous battle, Myrna Deneise (Cureton) McNabb, a Cocke County native and a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully and on her own terms.
Born and raised in Newport, she was one of five children of the late Frederick and Betty (Combs) Cureton and graduated from Cocke County High School. She was the beloved wife of the late Jimmy L. McNabb for over 42 years.
She loved to travel and took numerous cruises to the Caribbean, Bahamas, and her favorite, an Alaskan cruise. She took a whale-watching tour and was overjoyed when the whales jumped out of the water.
Oh, how she loved the Ben David High School marching band. She spent a great deal of time volunteering and supporting the Marching Giants. She traveled all over to support the band she loved so dearly.
Myrna treasured every moment spent with her family, especially those spent with her children and grandchildren.
Myrna is survived by her children Sherri Bartek (Steve), Angela Heid, and Shawn McNabb (Kristina), five grandchildren: Kristina, Kevin, Cole, Connor, and Austin, and one sister Helen Harper of Chattanooga.
A music scholarship fund is being created in her memory. If you wish to make a donation, please send to Shawn McNabb, Director; Ben Davis Band, 1200 N. Girls School Road, Indianapolis, IN 46214.
Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Union Cemetery in Newport for a graveside service with Dr. Craig Ward officiating.
