George E. McNabb, formally of Oak Ridge died peacefully on January 8, 2009 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born December 11, 1915 in Newport and moved to Oak Ridge in 1951.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Lucy Propst McNabb; sister, Elizabeth Grimsley; brother, Jimmy Lynn McNabb and wife of 58 years, Mildred Johnson McNabb.
He is survived by daughters, Patricia Berkenstock McNabb of Brooklyn Park, MN and Carolyn Simpson of Toronto, Ontario; four grandchildren, Paul Berkenstock, George Simpson, David Simpson, Shanda Simpson; four great-grandchildren, Megan and Tate Berkenstock, Dorion and Tasha Simpson; two brothers, Kenneth B. McNabb of Knoxville, and Charles McNabb of Florida; one sister, Irene Wiley of Kingsport; and devoted nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends will gather for a Memorial Service in the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge on Saturday, February 7, 2009. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. The service will be held at 2 p.m. with the Pastor and nephew-in-law, Reverend James Baker of Charlotte, NC officiating. There will be a reception following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
Following the reception, family and friends are invited to the Oak Ridge Cemetery for a brief graveside service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
