Community leader, William (Bill) J. Whitson went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 10:45 a.m.
Bill and Betty are Charter members of Memorial Baptist Church.
Bill is the son of the late James Garland and Bessie Mae Denton Whitson. He was also preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Charles Baxter and Eugene Hall.
He is the devoted husband of Betty, father to Russell Whitson, grandfather to Candra Raneau and April Richelle Whitson. He is also survived by sisters, Ms.Edith Baxter, Ms. Barbara June Hall, Mr and Mrs. John (Judith) Wade, Linda Whitson, brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel(Mary) Whitson, several loving nieces and nephews, special friends, Fred Allen and Charles Allen, Jr., and loving friends of the Hard Times Street Rod Car Club in which he was a charter member and Smoky Mountain Home Health.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Memorial Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. with Chaplain Glen Bradley, Rev. Alvin Watts, and Rev. Harold Ball officiating. Entombment will follow at Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Memorial Baptist Church Choir Fund.
