McMAHAN , JOSEPH L. - a lifelong resident of Sevierville, passed away Saturday April 7, 2001 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sevierville. He was a graduate of Knoxville College and he pursued graduate studies at Brown University in Rhode Island and the University of North Carolina. Joseph was employed by Rohm and Haas and later worked for Oak Ridge National Laboratories for 25 years. He owned several businesses in Sevierville. He was a member of the Sevier County Soil Conservation District and minority advisor for the Farm Service Agency. Joseph was a God honoring man who deeply loved his family and friends and encouraged them to strive for excellence in all their endeavors. He will be missed by many. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Odie and Henrietta McMahan and an infant daughter, Ophelia Ann. Survivors: devoted wife, Betty McMahan ; son and daughter in law, Joseph and Phyllis McMahan ; daughters, Lisa and Tammy McMahan ; grandchildren, Titus, Jermaine, Isaac and Joseph Quentin; brothers and sister in law, Henry and Lorraine McMahan , Robert and Rosemary McMahan all of Calif.; several nieces and nephews and cousins. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Smoky Mountain Dialysis Center, the Physical Therapy Unit of Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center and Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center for their exceptional care of Joseph . Funeral service 7 p.m. Wednesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Rev. Carl Bragg and Rev. Jerry Hyder will officiate. Interment service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in New Salem Cemetery, Sevierville. Friends may call after 12 noon Tuesday and the family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
