MUZIK Edition: Chicago Tribune John E. Muzik, 73, of La Grange Park, worked as a graphic artist and devoted his life to creating watercolor paintings. His watercolors of Door County, Wis., where he spent many summers, and his favorite vacation spots, including Paris and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, hang on the walls of collectors. Mr. Muzik, whom everybody called "Jack," died Thursday, April 6, in his home after a brief fight with brain cancer. Mr. Muzik made time to paint after work and on weekends, said his wife, Sharmaine Kalagian Muzik. He was not the stereotypical melodramatic artist: "Jack was a very, very low-key person," his wife said. "Sometimes, he'd come in and say, `I don't like the way this is going.' He'd say, `I'm going to let it rest for a while.' " But he judged himself fiercely, even while at high school art class. "His teachers couldn't grade him because if he wasn't satisfied with what he did, he'd crumple it up," she said. Mrs. Muzik's favorite painting from her husband hangs in their living room. It depicts fog on a creek in Door County. Other survivors include two daughters, Paula and Lisa Muzik; a son, Michael; and a sister, Mary Oudsteyn.
