MORRIS-Theresa G. Flood, 92, of Morris and formerly of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015 at Sunrise of Schaumburg.
Born Oct. 24, 1923 in Chicago, Theresa Marie was a daughter of Louis and Anna (LaCerra) Gore. She was raised in Chicago and graduated from Schurz High School. It was during her high school years that Theresa was honored to have been invited to sing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the Lyric Opera House. After high school, she went on to be actively involved with the Red Cross during World War II. On Feb. 11, 1950, Theresa married Thomas R. Flood in Elmhurst, and it was in 1955 that they moved to Streator, where they raised their family. She was active as a mother and homemaker, who enjoyed leading both 4-H and Brownies when her children were young. Theresa was an artist, who also took pleasure in performing and sewing costumes for The Barn Theater. She worked as a bookkeeper for Anthony Massino, was a founding member of the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary in Streator, and was proud to have put together the 1968 Streator Centennial Cookbook. Following the retirement of her husband, The Honorable Thomas R. Flood, together they retired to Palm Beach Gardens, FL, where she enjoyed golf and being active with St. Ignatius Catholic Parish. It was through St. Ignatius' Outreach, that Theresa worked in the food pantry, made angel ornaments for the Christmas trees and fed those in need during the holidays.
Survivors include her son, J.D. (Sandy) Flood of Morris; daughter, Barbara (Randy) Cochran of Elgin; grandchildren: Mandy (Tim) Lange of Belvidere, Tracy Cochran of Chicago, Katie Cochran of Elgin and Zack Flood and Maddie Flood both of Morris; one great-granddaughter, Margaret Autumn "Maggie" Lange; one brother, Harold (Joanne) Gore and one sister-in-law, Joan Gore.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, husband, The Honorable Thomas R. Flood; brother, John "Jack" Gore and sister, Lois Hemmelman .
Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 E. Jackson St. in Morris on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015 from 1 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Ed Howe officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, where Theresa will be laid to rest with her husband, Thomas.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Theresa's memory to Immaculate Conception School, 505 E. North St., Morris, IL 60450 or to Saint Bede Academy, 24 West US Highway 6, Peru, IL 61354.
