Dorothy Almeda Wood Vowell, 83, of Maryville, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Fairpark Nursing Home in Maryville.
Mrs. Vowell was a former resident of Oak Ridge. She was a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church and was very active at the Oak Ridge Senior Center when she lived here. She participated in the center's bowling leagues, arts and crafts activities and volunteer work and was also a member of its Ragtime Band.
She was born in Jellico on April 24, 1914, the daughter of William Rule and Lucy Mae Irwin Wood.
She was the widow of Paul E. Vowell Sr.
Mrs. Vowell is survived by two sons, Paul E. Vowell Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Ralph Vowell and his wife, Connie, of Maryville; a granddaughter, Kristy, of Johnson City; a grandson, Kevin, of Maryville; two sisters, Bessie Ridenour of Newport and Ammonee Miller of Lake City; two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Beets of Lake City and Daphene Bolton of Knoxville; and by several nieces and nephews.
Two sisters, Margaret Davis and Mabel Bolinger, and two brothers, J. Will Wood and Sam Wood, died earlier.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Feb. 10, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. David Webster and the Rev. Edwin Mitchell officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at McCarty Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the mortuary.
