David Elbert Galbraith, age 90 of Gatlinburg, died Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Sevier County Health Care Center. Mr. Galbraith was born in Concord, Tennessee and moved to Galtinburg in 1939 to join the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. He retired from government service in 1980 after 41 years. Three years of this was spent with the Navy Seabees in Alaska and the South Pacific during World War II. He served under every park superintendent beginning with Supt. J. Ross Eakin until his retirement.
Mr. Galbraith was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Gatlinburg, a member of the American Legion Post 202, serving as Post Commander, adjutant, sergeant–of-arms, and on various committees. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Great Smoky Mountain Natural History Association.
Dave, as he was affectionately called by his friends, was an active member of the community in which he resided and constantly helping his neighbors with any task at hand.
Mr. Galbraith was preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Leora Heft Galbraith; brother, George Galbraith; sisters, Clara Campbell, Rena Ammans, and Jessie Rolen.

Funeral service 2 PM Thursday in Atchley’s Smoky Mountain Chapel, Pigeon Forge with Rev. B. Eric Rieger officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel Mausoleum of Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 104. The family will receive friends 12-2 PM Thursday at Atchley’s Smoky Mountain Chapel, Pigeon Forge. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
