Lester Bill ( L.B.) Ottinger, 78 beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many died January 26, 2014 surrounded by those he cherished most at Franklin Woods Community Hospital, Johnson City after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Ed and Zollie Ottinger, of Parrottsville and was preceded in death by his sister Ruth Ottinger and his brother Charles (Chock) Ottinger. He was a lifelong member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was retired from Stokley's Can Shop and Summer-Taylor Construction. His proudest role was that of a father. He provided love, support and guidance to daddy's girl always there to share triumphs and struggles. He was a friend to many and loved nothing more than talking and visiting with his many friends. Most days he could be found sharing tall tales with friends at Arby's, Hardees, Law's Used Cars and Manes Funeral Home. He loved the sound of laughter. He had great pleasure in being a doting papaw to his two beloved grandsons. He loved life and enjoyed his last years to the fullest. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Patsy(Barnes) Ottinger , daddy's girl Melissa Ottinger Leake, son in law Greg Leake of Johnson City, TN, beloved grandsons Grayson and Grant Leake, of Johnson City, TN, brother James Ottinger, Newport, TN, Sister in laws Vivian Shults(Von), Evelyn Barnes(the late A.B.) nephews Truitt Ottinger, Parrottsville, TN, Todd Ottinger, Columbia, SC, Steve Barnes, Knoxville, TN, Dean Shults, Cosby, TN, Johnny Lewis, Knoxville, TN, Jimmy Lewis, Sevierville, TN, Jerry Lewis, Myrtle Beach, SC, nieces Vickie Riddle, Johnson City, TN, Danese Seid , Knoxville, TN, Teresa Pullman, Sevierville, TN, Janet Thompson, Sevierville, TN, Jackie Lindsey, Cosby, TN, great nephews Luke and Jake Ottinger, aunt Marie Ottinger, Parrottsville, TN, numerous cousins and son by love Jason Ramsey, Newport, TN. The family would like to express thanks to Dr. Mary Jane Gibson and her Nurse Monica Morris fondly called " M&M", the Physicians and staff of Johnson City Internal Medicine, Dr. Jeffrey Scoondyke of Karing Hearts Cardiology, and the Med-Surg Staff of Franklin Woods Community Hospital. The family will receive friends at Manes Funeral Home Wednesday, January 29th 5pm until 8pm and other times at the residence. A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 30th at 2pm meeting at Union Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Ramsey, Truitt Ottinger, Todd Ottinger, Jake Ottinger, Luke Ottinger, Ronnie Laws, Don Ball, Chris Austin, Dean Shults, Chuck Wright and Kyle Leake. Honorary Pallbearers will be the "Arby's Gang", Law's Used Cars friends, and Manes Funeral Home staff.
