U.S. Veteran George Scott Williams, age 85, of Newport, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the United States Army and a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gar and Glenna Blazer Williams. He is survived by his wife, Wilma Rae Williams; sons, Donald (Kathy) Williams of Sevierville; Hershell (Teresa) Williams of Newport; brother Lloyd Williams of Virginia; grandchildren, Josh and Chris Williams; and Tracy Cody; great-grandchildren, Austin and Ethan Ledford, Austin and Aiden Williams and Angel Franchak; special niece and caregiver Missy Bullington. The family would like to say a special “Thank You” to Newport Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 pm on February 18, 2014 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Hudson Chesteen. Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 19, 2014 in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Tuesday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service. Family and friends may sign the guest register on line at: www.manesfunerlhome.com.
