Rosie Jane Cook , of Oak Ridge, passed away at 1:39 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Celebrating 71 years of loving service to her family and community and mourning her untimely death are her daughter, Ellen Cook of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four sisters, Hazel Massengale of Oak Ridge, Macil Murrell and husband, Larry Murrell, of Seymour, Midge Carson and husband, William Carson, of the Dutch Valley community, and Aneda Thrasher of Oak Ridge; another brother-in-law, Carl Brittan (C.B.) Cook and wife, Mary Ruth, of the Claxton community; and four sisters-in-law, Willie Delozier and husband, Jack, of Sevierville, Elizabeth Denton and husband, Jack, of Sevierville, and Betty Jo Eason of Powell; nieces and nephews, Star, Pam, Keith, Brian Mark, Debbie, Crystal, Billy, Eric, James, Emily, Johnny, Jenny, Joe, Jane , Sheila, Mark, Mary John, Mary Beth and Sally; as well as numerous cousins and surviving aunts, Linda Lowe, Loci-Vila Hembree, Mertie Adkins and Martha Griffith, all of the Scott County, Tenn., area.
Friends and family will be received at West Murley Funeral Home in Oneida, Tenn., and services will be held the following day at Riverview Missionary Baptist Church in Smoky Junction, Tenn., where she was a lifetime member and childhood student. Final arrangements have not been determined.
She was in attendance at monthly services held at Nicks Creek Baptist Church in the '60s, '70s and '80s and had become a member of the Seymour Methodist Church in 1957.
Rosie Jane has gone home to rest with Jesus; her late husband, Charles D. Cook ; late father, Laford Massengale ; late brother, Clifford Massengale ; and late sister, Delsie Chambers.
Rosie Jane and Charles lived in Seymour, Harriman, and Knoxville, Tenn., and Long Beach, Calif. She and Ellen lived in Coalfield, then Oak Ridge thereafter.
Rosie Jane used her creativity as a seamstress for Levi Strauss, Alpha Industries and spent over 30 years working at One Hour Martinizing in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Stricken and finally overcome with COPD, she delighted her family and doctors with her light-hearted antics regularly and will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
