Janette Conner Stamey Gamble, age 96 of Pigeon Forge, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014. She was born September 27, 1917 in Smokemont, NC, which is now a part of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Mrs. Gamble's father was the well-known Charles W. Conner, for whom Charlie's Bunion on the Appalachian Trail was named by his friend Horace Kephart.
She was a former member of Oconaluftee Baptist Church in Smokemont, and later became a member of First Baptist Church, Pigeon Forge.
She was preceded in death by her father Charlie Conner; mother Ella Buck Conner; husbands Howard Stamey (Feb. 1940) and Murrell Gamble (May 1985); sisters, Lucille Moles, Ruth Sheffer, Gladys Cowart, Wanda Barnes; brothers, Charles and Douglas Conner; son-in-law, Jim Catlett;

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to staff of Mountain Brook Village for their care of Mrs. Gamble.
Funeral service 4 PM Sunday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Ellenburg officiating. Interment 11 AM Monday in Pigeon Forge Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 PM Sunday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
