Baldwin, Howard Taft –born March 6, 1920 in New Tazewell, Tennessee, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 23, 2008 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Howard is a veteran of World War II serving in the European Theatre as Staff Sergeant of Company A 692nd Tank Destroyer Battalion. He entered the Civil Conservation Corp in 1939 in Jefferson City serving 2 years. After returning from World War II, Howard completed Barber School and began his barbering career in Lonsdale where he owned and operated his own shop for over 40 years. He served as music director of Lonsdale Baptist Church and was a member of Meridian Baptist Church, also serving as music director in the Adult Music Department. Preceded in death by parents, Nat Baldwin and Minnie Barnard; sisters, Nellie Seals, Edith Smith, Thelma Duncan; brother, Kelsie Baldwin; and first wife, Gertrude “Ginny” Baldwin.
Survivors
Survived by wife, Stella Baldwin; sisters, Stella Byrd Large, Lennie Day; brother, Carson Baldwin and wife, Ina; stepdaughter, Shelia Wilson and husband, Jack; step-granddaughter, Priscilla Hankins; several nieces and nephews.
Service
A celebration of life service will be held 8:00 PM Friday, September 26, 2008 in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway, Rev. Dana Fachman officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Family and friends will meet at Baldwin-Duncan Cemetery in New Tazewell, Tennessee, on Saturday, September 27, 2008, for a 10:00 AM interment service. Pallbearers will be nephews, Kenneth, Randy and David Duncan, Lynn Large, Eric and Ed Baldwin.
