Byrd, Claude William –age 85, of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 17, 2005. He was a member of Kodak United Methodist Church, of the Roosevelt Lodge 510 F&AM in Michigan, and Kerbela Shrine Temple in Knoxville. Mr. Byrd retired from General Motors after 31 years of service as a pipe fitter. Preceded in death by parents, James Galyon and Jane Allen Byrd; first wife, Geneva DeFreece Byrd; second wife, Elizabeth White Byrd; brother, Johnny Byrd; sisters, Ada Swaggerty, Mae Franklin, Cena Layman and Nova Etherton.
Survivors
He is survived by sister-in-law, Ruby Monehun; brother-in-law, Lawrence DeFreece, both of Kingsport; loving and devoted niece, Sylvia Hollifield of Knoxville; step-daughters, Joan and husband, Jim Singleton of Knoxville, Kathy and husband, Danny Herrell of Florida; several nieces and nephews.
Service
Funeral service will be held 10 AM on Saturday, Berry Funeral Home Chapel, Chaplain Phil Groos officiating. Family and friends will meet at Oak Hill Cemetery in Kingsport on Saturday for 2 PM interment services. Pallbearers will be nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Friday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
