He was a member of Luretta United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jo Burns. His survivors include sons, Dr. Gene Burns, Jr. and wife Michele, Jerry Burns and wife Sheri; grandchildren, Jonathan Burns and wife Sharon, Katherine, Jesse, Michael, Alexandra, Gene III, Andrew and Serena Burns; sister, Sylvia (Burns) Tucker; father-in-law, Fred Brock; and special friends, Mary Webb and "the little boys" Caleb and Jonah Webb. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Timothy Panella and his staff. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be sent to American Legion Post # 104, P.O. Box 4242, Sevierville, TN 37864. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday with funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Pastor Fred Heard will officiate. Interment will be 10:00 AM Friday in Providence Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #104.
