He was a retired building contractor and farmer, and an avid outdoorsman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Georgie Atchley ; 4 sisters; and 1 brother. Survivors include his wife, Maggie Atchley ; son, Don Atchley and his wife, Martha; grandsons, Matthew and Scott Atchley and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday December 30, 2001 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Michael Murphree officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3 p.m. Interment will follow at Caledonia Cemetery. Evergreen Chapel, 7426 Asheville Hwy. Knoxville, Tenn. is in charge of arrangements.
