ABBOTT, PERRY D. - age 84 of Townsend, passed away Friday, September 14, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a member and deacon of Bethel Baptist Church. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Abbott was a graduate of Maryville College and worked as an engineer with the Federal Highway Administration for 30 years where he worked on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Foothills Parkway and Cherohala Skyway and many other projects. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.P. & Minerva Headrick Abbott; brothers, Carl & Joe Abbott; sisters, Nina Abbott & Lou Ella Farmer and son, Jerry Joe Abbott. Survivors include his wife, Jennie Bradshaw Abbott; son & daughter in law, Perry E. & Judette Abbott of Tucson, Ariz.; son, Stephan L. Abbott of Monroeville, Penn.; sister & brother in law, Elaine A. & Bill Kistler of Russellville, Ark.; brother, Ed Abbott of Townsend; four granddaughters; and daughter in law, Carla Abbott. Funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday, September 16, 2001 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Darren Wigington officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
