MASSEY, HARLAN FRANKLIN – born on November 22, 1932, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. He was a Member and Deacon of Seven Islands Missionary Baptist Church. Harlan sang with the Seven Islands Quartet for many years. He was lovingly known as "Poppa" by many. Preceded in death by parents, Lee Ander and Sallie Massey; brothers and sisters, Ellen Berrier, Gladys Reed, Lee Massey, Johnnie Blair, Liddie Reed, Sytha Porterfield, Isalona Cupp, Frances Frye, Taylor Massey, and Ruth Johnson; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, June Anderson; and brother-in-law, Ken Morgan. Harlan is survived by wife of 59 years, Jewel; daughter and son-in-law, LeaAnn and Ron Lawson; son, Timothy; grandsons, Benjamin and Jordan Lawson; sister, Billie Thomas, brother-in-law, Jerry Simmons (Kay); sisters-in-law, Joy Morgan, Jackie Blair , and Janet Reed (Gary); and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Family and friends will meet on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Seven Islands Cemetery for a graveside service with Rev. Terry Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Berry Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Seven Islands Cemetery, c/o Janie Cunningham, 2711 Kimberlin Heights Road, Knoxville, TN 37920, make checks payable to Seven Islands Church and Cemetery Association.
