Services: Funeral service will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2006 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Ronnie Hepperly, Rev. Phillip Marshall, Rev. Jim McCulla, and Dale Benson officiating. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2006 at Zion’s Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Mortuary, Maryville.
Benson, Loy Walter age 84 of Friendsville passed away Monday, September 4, 2006 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in WW II. He retired from TVA as a Electrical Engineer and was a 50 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Preceded in death by parents, Walter and Molly Benson; brothers, Wade Benson, Ernest Benson, Jim Benson, and Newell Romines. Survivors include wife, Alyene Reno Benson; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Patty Benson of Michigan City, IN, Gary Wayne and Delaney Benson of Alcoa, Dale and Tracy Benson of Gainsville, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and David Borden of Friendsville, Teresa and Mike Lindsey of Townsend, Laurie and Bob Lewis of Alcoa, Rebecca and Ronnie Duckworth of Friendsville, Jennifer and Jamie Payne of Maryville, TN; twenty-one grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brothers, Willard Benson of Maryville and Wayne Benson of E. Peoria, IL, Funeral service will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2006 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Ronnie Hepperly, Rev. Phillip Marshall, Rev. Jim McCulla, and Dale Benson officiating. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 7, 2006 at Zion’s Chapel Cemetery. In leiu of flowers memorial Donations may be made to The Benson Family, c/o Smith Mortuary 1402 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, TN 37803 to help with expenses.
