Fred T. Lawson died suddenly of complications from a knee infection on April 25, 2009, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.
He had returned to live in Sevierville after retiring from a thirty-five year career as a reporter for the Dayton Journal-Herald and Dayton Daily News in Ohio. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Kettering, serving many years on the Board of Deacons. In October 1951, he married Rose Mary Haley of Brooksville, Kentucky. They were married for almost fifty-seven years when she passed away in August of 2007.
Fred is survived by two sons, Fred H. Lawson of Bodega Bay, California, and Thomas T. Lawson of El Cerrito, California; two daughters-in-law, Deborah D. Lawson and Dina Rasor; and two beloved grandsons, Daniel Lawson of the University of California, Santa Cruz, and Nicholas Lawson of Willamette University.
