- [S27] The Daily Times, http://www.thedailytimes.com/, (Blount County, Tennessee), 25 Feb 2009.
Annie Lou Widener, 86, went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009. She was born and raised in Blount County and worked on the family farm. She loved to sell vegetables and eggs at the Market House in Knoxville, now known as Market Square. She was also a nanny to many children in the area and made many fond memories. She didn’t have any children of her own, but was like a mother to her nephew, James Anthony Wilson, Sr., and wife Judy; niece, Callie Yarberry; nephew, Gilford Wilson; and grandmother to great niece, Aretha Wilson. In 1959, she married the love of her life, Richard L. Widener, and lost him to death in 1982. He was in her heart until her last days. After his death, she moved back home to care for her brother and sister. She was a loving, Christian lady who loved everyone. Special friends included Dennis and Vickie Webb, Dave and Linda Blazier, and Rev. Carl Etter. Special thanks to Vickie Webb for the care she gave Annie during the last weeks of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Widener; parents, John and Callie M. Wilson; siblings, Lewis Wilson, Elsie Mae Wilson, Johnny Bell Wilson, Rubye J. Wilson, Genevieve M. Wilson, James O. Wilson, Sherman P. Wilson, and Callie Irene Wilson. Survivors include nephews, James Anthony (Judy) Wilson, Sr., Johnny (Betty) Wilson, Gilford (Frances) Wilson, Curtis Wilson, Herman Wilson, Arthur Wilson, Bill (Marion) Widener, Tim (Lisa) Widener; nieces, Callie (Rick) Yarberry, Rachel (Nathaniel) Bates, Rhonda Melton, Regina Wilson, Linda (Jefferson) Ross; great-nephew, James Anthony Wilson, Jr.; great-niece, Aretha Wilson; and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, from 6-7 p.m. with funeral service to follow at First Apostolic Church, 1723 William Blount Drive, Maryville, with Pastor Kenneth Carpenter officiating. Entombment to be held on 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Highland South Memorial Park, Chapman Highway. Arrangement By Unity Mortuary.
