Burgess, age of 78 Sevierville, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009. He was born October 10, 1930 and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Burgess retired from Cherokee Textile Mill and the Sevier County School System. His hobbies were many, including collecting antique knives, gardening and bicycle repair. Over the years he repaired and gave away over fifty bicycles to needy children. Mr. Burgess found great joy in watching his grandsons in their sporting events. He was preceded in death by his mother Mabel Burgess and brother Robert Lane. Survivors include his: Wife: Mary Burgess Daughters: Donna Burgess, Mary Ann Cadger and husband Mike Grandsons: Andrew and Ian Cadger Brothers: W.C. Burgess, Virgil Williams, James A. Williams, and Norman Williams Sister: Edna Mae Thomas In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boyds Creek Baptist Church, 1110 Boyds Creek Highway, Sevierville, TN 37876. Funeral service 6 PM Sunday in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie White and Rev. Bill Stephens officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:30 AM Monday in Pollard Cemetery for interment. Military honors will be provided by American Post # 104.
