SLOAN, HERMAN C. - age 81, of Knoxville, passed away 3:21 a.m. Sunday, April 15, 2001, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice. A Member and Deacon of Oakwood Baptist Church. A World War II Veteran. Retired Sergeant and Detective with the Knoxville Police Department and member of F.O.P. #2. Preceded in death by parents, Albert and Minnie Sloan; four brothers and four sisters. Survivors: wife, Juanita Lay Sloan; daughter, Shelia Sloan Payne, both of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Len and Judy Sloan of Alcoa; grandsons and wives, Shane and KaLee Sloan, Shannon and Missy Payne; granddaughter, Tracy Sloan; great-grandchild, Madison Sloan; sister, Ann Rechichar of Knoxville; sisters-in-law, Jean Sloan of Maryville and Irene Lay of Florence, Miss.; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will meet 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery for a 1 p.m. graveside service, Rev. Larry Young and Rev. Tony Earl officiating, with full honors presented by the Knoxville Police Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Dependable Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oakwood Baptist Church Building Fund, 111 E. Columbia Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917. Arrangements by Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Ave. at Broadway.
