Whittle, Robert Bruce, M.D., age 83, passed away at home surrounded by love after a brief illness. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on July 15, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert P. Whittle and Louise Whittle, of Gatlinburg, Tennessee; and brother, Dr. Herbert P. Whittle Jr. of Blount County. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa White; grandson, Bradley White; sister-in-law, Rita Whittle of Maryville; nephew, Chris Whittle of New York City; nieces, Camille Hanggi of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Karen Ellington of Fort Myers, Florida. He is also survived by special loving friend, Sandra Waller and family. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and received his Medical Doctor degree from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He served two years in the United States Navy and entered into practice in 1960 in Knoxville until semi-retirement in 1988. He was Chief of Staff at Baptist Hospital in 1975. He worked since 1991 at Interfaith Health Clinic and also the last several years at the Volunteers In Medicine Clinic in Hilton Head, South Carolina. He worked in Golden Gloves Boxing for 41 years as a physician and was inducted into the National Golden Gloves Hall of Fame and was also a member of the Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame. He enjoyed golf and was a member of Holston Hills Country Club for over 50 years and served as President for two terms. He was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 4904 Asheville Highway on Saturday, September 20th at 5:00 PM. A celebration of his life will be held at Holston Hills Country Club, 5200 Holston Hills Road from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday following the memorial service.
