(December 28, 1930 - October 1, 2016)
U.S. Veteran Paul Hux, age 85, of Newport, went to celebrate a new life with his Savior early Saturday morning, October 01, 2016. He was a gracious man who lived his life with an eternal perspective. He was always loving, giving, and serving.
Paul was born on December 28, 1930 and grew up in the Bat Harbor Community. He served in the United States Army during the 1950’s and enjoyed reliving the tales of his military days. He married the love of his life, Bettye Ball on February 28, 1956, and together they had one daughter, Angela Gail Hux. He worked at Stokley Van Camps, later retiring from Sonoco Products.
He loved being outdoors enjoying wildlife, exercising, and walking. He spent many summers vacationing in Myrtle Beach, always feeding the gulls, collecting shells, going to The Pavilion, and playing a very competitive game of miniature golf. His passion for music spanned an entire lifetime, sharing with his family, friends and church. He served as a volunteer to local nursing homes, playing music for the residents. He especially loved playing at the Newport Convalescent Center where he volunteered for 25 years.
He always had a huge smile on his face and never met a stranger because everyone who met him became a dear friend. He was an outstanding, honorable, loving, gentle, kind and selfless man. He adored his two granddaughters, Meghan and Macey. Instead of simply saying goodbye, he would always tell us, “I’ll see-saw you later.” Paul was an ordained deacon and a member of Memorial Baptist Church with special ties to West End Baptist Church. Paul was preceded in death by his parents John Isaac Cox Hux and Susie Click Hux, and by his sisters, Hazel and Imogene Hux, brother, Earl Hux, brothers-in-law Hoyle Crum and Wade Pruitt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bettye Ball Hux, devoted daughter, Angela Hux Gentry, (husband, Gary Gentry), lovely granddaughters, Macey Alonnah Gentry, and Meghan Olivia Gentry Perkins, (husband, Josh Perkins) He is also survived by his sisters Clydia B Crum, Edith Pruitt, and Geraldine Wright, brother-in-law Kenneth Wright, and sister-in-law Willa Mae Hux, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Other survivors include many special family members of the Pack and Ball families.
The family would like to say a special thank you to our friends, our extended family, and our dear church. We would also like to thank the amazing doctors of Rural Medical Center of Newport and the outstanding staff at Tennova of Newport.
For now, we will carry on the faith that you have instilled in us along with our family traditions; while you are playing your music celebrating with others who have gone on before. Until then, we will see-saw you later. You are so loved.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Tuesday, October 4, 2016 with funeral services following at 7:00 pm at Memorial Baptist Church, with Pastor Harold Ball officiating. Entombment will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 5, 2016 in Resthaven Memorial Mausoleum, with military honors.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 1132, Newport, TN 37822. Family and friends may sign the guest register on line at: www.manesfuneralhome.com. Arrangements by Manes Funeral Home.
