March 12, 1942 - April 11, 2016 Resided in Sevierville, TN James Sammy Ricker, age 74 of Sevierville, formerly of Greeneville, TN, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016. Sammy grew up in the Glendale Community of Greene County, where he developed his love for God, family and sports. He was well known and respected as a softball player and coach. He is a graduate of Greeneville High School where he still holds records in basketball and track. Sammy was a Greene Devil thru and thru and loved Lady Vol basketball almost as much. He spent a lot of his life listening to and watching gospel music shows. He loved his country and served in the U.S. Army in the 1960's. Sammy never met a stranger and he will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Ricker; mother, Dorothy Ricker; brothers, David and Roy Ricker and niece, Angel Hicks. Mr. Ricker is survived by his wife Joyce Ricker; sons, Keith and Todd Ricker, Dale and Ronda Taffer, Jimmy and Alison Taffer; grandchildren, Nancy Makayla Ricker, Brandon Ricker, Devin and Sean Ricker, Cody Taffer; step-grandchildren, Shannon, Tara, Stacey and Christopher; sisters, Janice and Alvin McClanahan, Donna and Jim Hicks, Debbie and Sammy Price; sister-in-law, Maxine Beeler; nieces, Vickie, Cindy, Penny; nephews, Tim and Tommy; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and uncle Arthur Ricker. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to benefit the family. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Thursday with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Rev. David Henry will officiate. Interment 11 AM Friday in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Greene County.
