NEWCOMB , A . J . - age 80 of Knoxville, passed away 9 p.m. Sunday, November 27, 2005 at Ridgeview Terrace Life Care Center in Rutledge, Tenn. after a lengthy illness. A . J . was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in Normandy France and the Germany Campaigns. He was awarded three Bronze Battle Stars, the American Theatre medal, Victory medal, a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Distinguished Unit Badge. A . J . was preceded in death by: his son, Billy Newcomb in 2004 parents, Joe and Alice Newcomb sister, Edna Lovelace brothers, Raymond and Charles Newcomb nephews, Kenneth Nipper and Chuck Grubbs. A . J . is survived by: his loving wife, Estalee Valentine Newcomb son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Penny Newcomb grandson, Brant Newcomb daughter-in-law, Kim Newcomb step grandchildren, Dustin, Shanda and Zane sisters, Evelyn Housewright and Nella Martin and several nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers: Jim Bridges, Herb Hurst, Charles Smith, Raymond Duncan and John Lee McCarter. Family and friends will meet at 9:15 a .m. Wednesday at the Tennessee State Veterans' Cemetery for a 9:30 a .m. graveside and interment service with full military honors presented by the Volunteer State Veterans' Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church 7001 Northshore Dr. Knoxville, Tenn. 37919 or to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
