James Lawson "J.L." Thomas, age 90, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2015. He was born March 26, 1925. He was a member of Meadow View Baptist Church. J.L. was called to serve in the U.S. Army where he served with the Battery C 774th Field artillery battalion. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. J.L. returned home and married the love of his life, Helen Loren Thomas. They were married 61 years. He retired from Lay's Packing Company after 38 years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen; daughters, Vickie Lynch, Connie Troutman; and parents, Willis and Eskell Thomas. He is survived by his children: Teresa (David) Kear, Mike Thomas, Steve (Melissa) Thomas, Kathie (Fernando) Navas, son-in-law Don Troutman, his ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 14, 2015, at Berry Funeral Home 3704 Chapman Highway. Family and friends will meet at Beech Springs Cemetery, Kodak on Friday at 11:00 AM for graveside services, Rev. Bruce Yates officiating.
