Kodak man dies in I-40 crash
KNOXVILLE - A 71-year-old Kodak man died in a single-vehicle crash along Interstate 40, according to a report released this morning.
Clyde M. Terry of Douglas Dam Road died in the 2:26 p.m. Friday crash on I-40 near the Midway interchange, according to a report filed by the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
Terry was driving a 2002 silver Volkswagen eastbound on I-40 when the vehicle darted off the right side of the road and then back across three lanes of travel and off the left side of the road, according to the report. The Volkswagen then rolled several times before coming to a rest in a ditch.
The report notes the car traveled about 565 feet before coming to a rest.
Terry was trapped in the wreckage. He was using a seat belt at the time of the crash, the report noted.
A passenger, Freddie H. Stokes, 27, also of Kodak, was injured in the wreck. He was not using a seat belt, according to the report.
Stokes was taken by ambulance to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available this morning.
The accident report states speeding was a factor in the crash. Although it was unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, routine tests for those substances were being conducted as part of the investigation.
More details as they develop online and in Tuesday's News Sentinel.
