Henry Barnes lived in Chesnut Branch, North Carolina with his family. Henry had black hair and a red beard and dark skin. Henry was a soldier in the Union Army. He was at home when some Confederate Scouts found him. They shot him in the face and carried him way back in the mountains. He was then left for dead. Henry became conscious and crawled off the mountain. He crawled into a yard where a woman was hanging up clothes. The woman got a doctor, but he died a few hours later. Henry was buried in the Chesnut Mountain Cemetery.
