Resided in Strawberry Plains, TN
John B. "Buddy" Duncan, 75 of Strawberry Plains, went peacefully to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 after a brave fight and brief illness with cancer. He was born October 2, 1939 in Knoxville to his parents, John B. Duncan Sr. and Margaret Sue Vaughan McCroskey. Buddy was a United States Air Force Veteran. He proudly served as a Flight Line Firefighter. Buddy was an avid NASCAR fan who built and raced his own dirt track racecar. He was a Master Millwright who worked at ORNL and Daniel Construction Company. Buddy was a Christian and a member of Waldens Creek United Methodist Church. He was a past President of the Goldminers and never met a stranger. Buddy always said goodbye with his infamous phrase, "Is the coffee ready yet?" He will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; the love of his life, Sybil H. Duncan; and brother, Vincent "Vic" V. Schettini.
John is survived by his loving children, Dewanna (Dan) Williams, Barry (Brenda) Duncan, Dawn Myers, Delisa Destefano, and Miranda (Nick Pieroni) Ortiz; siblings, Harry "Herb" Duncan, Art (Sharon) Schettini, Richard E. Duncan, Marie Bullock, Sharon Duncan, Betty J. Duncan, Marianna (Ronnie) Keener, and Fran (Jim) Hendricks; many adoptive children; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friends, Jim and Betty Dick, Joe Myers, Jennifer Myers, Benny Chester and all his friends at Weekend Goldminers.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to all the nurses and clinical managers at Amedisys Hospice and all the caregivers that helped with our Dad.
