John Wesley Cutshaw Sr. left his home in Friendsville for his heavenly home to be with his Lord on September 11, 2007. He was licensed minister and loved to teach Bible classes and preach. He was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Hickory Valley Baptist Church. He accepted the Lord as his savior at a very young age and over the years as he traveled he always found a church where he could be a faithful servant. He had a beautiful singing voice and sand at every opportunity. He sang with a male gospel quartet called The Singsperators. He is now singing with the angels in Heaven. Jack joined the Navy when he was a teenager, and did his basic training in Norfolk, VA and was transferred to Rodd Field in Corpus Christi, TX where he met his wife Sadie at Sunshine Baptist Church, now Gardendale. They were married the following year. World War II was announced as he was visiting Sadie in her home. Their first child was only a baby when he was shipped overseas. He deployed from Florida to the Philippines. Eventually he was sent back to Corpus Christi. When his service was ending he was sent to the Great Lakes to be mustered out. After his discharge, he did civilian work at Point Magoo Naval Station working on airplane instruments and at North Island at San Diego, CA. For a number of years he was manager of Kimballs Grocery Wholesale Warehouse in Corpus Christi and after returning to Tennessee he owned a grocery in Friendsville. He is preceded in death by: Parents, Ernest & Artie Fox Cutshaw; First Wife Nell Cox Cutshaw; Son, Leslie Cole Cutshaw. Jack is survived by: His wife of 65 years, Veda Mercedes (Sadie) Cole Cutshaw; Sons and Daughters-in-law, Jack Jr. & Pat Garland Cutshaw, Jerry & Christine Yates Cutshaw, Jeffrey Scott & Neletia Lawson Cutshaw, Stephen Mark & Stacy Carlson Cutshaw, and Joseph Cutshaw all of Maryville and Benjamin & Lynn Barton Cutshaw of Florida; Daughter & Son-in-law, Janice Cutshaw Scheafnocker & Bradley of Maryville, Grandsons, Jason, Cole, and Christopher Cutshaw & Isaiah and Caleb Scheafnocker; Granddaughters, Alonda, Alicia, Kara, Aston & Savannah Cutshaw and Rhonda Mayfield, Vonda Dunn, Shannon Musgraves, Leslie Davis and Leah Scheafnocker; Nine Great-Grandchildren; Sisters, Louise Jones, Johnnie Plumlee & Tina Teffeteller all of Maryville; numerous relatives and friends.
