- Graduated at Harvard University in 1843 and at Cambridge Divinity school, was a
ordained pastor of the Unitarian Society in Manchester, New Hampshire, 29 March
1848, installed over the New North Church in Boston, Massachusetts 1 June 1853.
As a volunteer in the Union Army in the Civil War he was made chaplain and was
also distinguished as a newspaper correspondent. He was killed at
Fredericksburg by a sharpshooter.
