Mattie “Sue” Tarwater Yoakum, age 74 of Sevierville, loving wife and mother of six, left this life and joined her Savior Monday, May 16, 2011. Sue was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Sevierville and served on the nursery staff there for over 30 years. She loved babies, and enjoyed painting, gardening, hiking and camping with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Stewart Tarwater and mother, Mattie Belle Ward Tarwater.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years: Carl “Pete” Yoakum, sons and daughters-in-law: David and Mary Ann Yoakum, Larry and Kim Yoakum, and Steven and Melanie Yoakum, Daughters and Sons-in-law: Gina and Rudy Guess, Sandy Sessions, and Jennifer and Donnie Rule. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Bob and Dorothy Tarwater, Larry and Janie Tarwater, John Tarwater and Jeff Tarwater, Sister and Brother-in-law: Pam and Elmer Clark. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral service 7 PM Wednesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Hyder and Rev. Rudy Guess officiating. Interment 10 AM Thursday in Cummings Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
