He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Ball. He is survived by his father, Clifford (Brenda) Ball; grandmother, Merlie Ball; brothers, David (Annette) Ball, Wayne Ball sisters, Susie (Stephen) Swann and Wilma Ball all of Cosby; nephews, Dakota Ball, Corey, Andrew, Caden Swann, and Jaegan Webb; nieces, Caelan Ball, Jessica Webb, Whitney Webb and Destiny Daniels; girlfriend Amanda Anthony and her children, Breanna and James Anthony and Zack and Sarah Mantooth. Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm Wednesday, September 18, 2013 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Stephen Swann officiating. Author: Nelson Morais NEWPORT-A Cosby Volunteer Fire Department firefighter and the driver of a Mack truck that hit a rollback parked on the shoulder of Interstate 40 died in a violent, two-vehicle crash Monday morning, Sept. 16, the Tennessee Highway Patrol reported. Clayton Ball, 33, was a firefighter with the CVFD 13 years, said CVFD Fire Chief Chris Gregg. The driver of the 2000 Mack truck, Ricky Lee McCurry, 50, was from Shelby, N.C., and not wearing a seat belt, THP Trooper Tyler Hall reported. He died in the wreck, as well. "He is really going to be missed, by the Cosby Volunteer Fire Department, and the community. Our hearts go out to his family over their loss," Chief Gregg said of Ball to The Newport Plain Talk. In addition to being a ?re?ghter, Ball drove a rollback for a living, and was a passenger in the rollback that was parked on the shoulder of westbound I-40, Gregg said. He had a load of pallets on the rollback. Ball was not on duty as a ?re?ghter at the time. The THP report stated the 2002 International 440 rollback was parked on I-40 westbound near mile marker 442 due to a recent crash the driver had just been involved in. McCurry was reportedly also headed west on I-40 when, at 6:45 a.m., the vehicle traveled to the shoulder of the interstate and collided with the rollback, THP Trooper Tyler stated in his accident report. Ball was a passenger in the rollback, but outside it at the time of the wreck, on the shoulder of the interstate on the passenger side of the rollback when he was struck, according to Tyler's report. Roger S. Hawk, 31, of Hartford, was the driver of the parked rollback, and injured. He was reportedly on the shoulder of the interstate and listed as a pedestrian at the time of the wreck, as Ball was, the THP report stated. The accident was Sept. 16, 2013 when a truck driven by Ricky Lee McCurry hit a parked rollback knocking it into Clayton.
