Joseph W. Spurling, age 95, of Alcoa, passed away Sunday October 23, 2011, at Colonial Hills Transitional Care Center. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II under General Stillwell providing supplies to the forces fighting along the China-Burma Road. He was known in Alcoa as “The Tract Man” and retired from ALCOA after 37 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Dickson Spurling; son, Louis Joseph Spurling; and parents, James and Nancy Houser Spurling. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Leonard Moses of Maryville; six grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Caylor of Wears Valley; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 7:00 PM Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Miller Funeral Home Cedar Chapel, Rev. Ronald Morton of the Lamplight Full Gospel Church officiating. Family and friends will gather 1:00 PM Wednesday at Grandview Cemetery for the interment.
