James Conley "Snuffy" Smith, age 72, of White Pine, passed away at 4 a.m. Monday morning, July 20, at the
Mountain Home Veterans Administration Medical Center in Johnson City following a lingering illness.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dandridge, the Brazelton Lodge #190 F and AM where he was past master, the Martha Dandridge Chapter #438 Order of the Eastern Star where he was past patron, the Dandridge Lions Club, and the Scottish Rite Bodies and Kerbela Shrine Temple in Knoxville.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army and was a member of the VFW Post #3380 in Dandridge.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Judson and Theresa Byrd Smith, his brothers, Carl Smith and J.P. Smith, a half sister, Kathleen Derrick, and a precious grandson, Brandon Byrd.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jo Ann Williams Smith of the home; step-children, Kathy Parker, of Knoxville, Micki
Reynolds, of White Pine, and Jeff Berry, of Dandridge; grand children, Jamie Parker, Trey Parker, Jordan Reynolds, Brandon Berry, and Erin Beason; sister and brother-in-law, Jo Ann and J.B. Etherton, of Dandridge; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Virginia Holbert, of Marietta, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday morning, July 23, from the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church in
Dandridge with Dr. Robert McCray and Rev. John Crabtree officiating. Interment to follow in the Dandridge Memorial Gardens with Military Honors being given by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard along with Masonic Rites being presented by the Brazelton Lodge #190.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening, July 22, at the funeral home.
